Red Velvet @ Jajo Gallery - Newark, NJ 04.11.08

Last night was the much anticipated Red Velvet art & music event at the Jajo Gallery in downtown Newark. Congratulations to Sheena and everyone else involved with this amazing night! There was some awesome art, live performances and phenomenal DJs. I heard 300+ people rolled through to celebrate the local Jersey arts and support a great cause:  Project RED for AIDS. I want to thank all of my friends who came out to support. I love you guys! Below are the 2 new pieces I had in the show:

Pagan Poetry – 16″ x 20″ Mixed Media

Diamond – 12″ x 12″ Mixed Media

More photos, a lot of these I scooped from Sheena. Check out her blog: Chainsaws & Jelly

Everyone involved is talented and passionate and it’s gonna be truly amazing. If you know what’s good for you, you better show up, donate and have a good time! Holy shit I am excited.

Jersey City Artists Tour & Prime Surreal Estate Opening Night

Jersey City Artists Tour & Prime Surreal Estate Opening Night

Last Friday I attended the opening night reception for the Prime Surreal Estate show at the Canco Lofts in Jersey City, NJ. It was a show inside a show actually since the opening night for the Jersey City Artist’s Tour was going on at the same time in the same space. I got to see some amazing work, truly inspiring stuff. As soon as I got home I started to draw. I’d like to thank John and Truce for inviting me! After the show, John and I went to Singa’s Pizza which we have proclaimed to be the best pizza in all the land. Fer realz.

There was so much beautiful art but here are some of the pieces that really struck a chord with me. I am sorry that I don’t know the artist for all of them, but if you do or you ARE the artist please comment here and I’ll gladly add the name.

Gothic: Dark Glamour

Gothic: Dark Glamour

I have a deep love affair with anything dark, romantic and slightly macabre. So it’s fair to say that a new exhibit that just recently opened at the Museum at FIT has got me a bit turned on. It is a look at the history and beginnings of Gothic fashion as well as it’s influence on today’s designer and street fashions. The exhibit will feature looks from designers who truly exemplify the spirit and essence of the Gothic aesthetic along with ensembles representing several of today’s Gothic subcultures such as Japanese “Gothic Lolitas”.

Victorian mourning dresses, Alexander McQueen and Gothic Lolitas … I’m swooning already.

Gothic: Dark Glamour

September 5, 2008 through February 21, 2009

“Gothic” is an epithet that evokes images of death, destruction, and decay. Not simply a word that describes something, such as a Gothic cathedral, it is almost always a term of abuse that implies the dark, barbarous, and gloomy. Such negative connotations have made the gothic an ideal symbol of rebellion for a wide range of cultural outsiders. From its origins in 18th century gothic literature of terror to its contemporary manifestations in vampire literature and cinema, the gothic has embraced the powers of horror and the erotic macabre. Throughout its history, fashion has been central to our vision of the gothic. The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) presents Gothic: Dark Glamour, the first exhibition devoted to the gothic in fashion, from September 5, 2008 through February 21, 2009.

Daily Dose

Daily Dose

I have to give a shot out to the guys over at Daily Dose, a shop in Jersey City. I used to live there for almost 4 years, miss it dearly and can’t wait to one day move back but anyhoo, they are coming out with some fresh shit and that JD inspired tee has my name written all over it. Always have to show some love for Jersey. This truly is a place like no other. Love it or hate it, this is our home and it’s filled with some amazing and unique individuals.

Also on a side note, my Virgo brother Truce is having a birthday blast this friday at Grand Banks. If you are in the area swing by to enjoy some drunkin fun and good tunes provided by DJ Arlo.

Tara McPherson - Dunny Painting at Kid Robot

Here are some photos of Tara McPherson and her 48″ custom Dunny during a live painting session at the KR Pirate Store in NYC a few days ago. All I have to say is I wish I had gone and does anyone know if kid robot actually sells the 48″ Dunny to the public? Also, how amazing does Tara look?
